GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Introduction to node-based compositing in Nuke. Students will learn the interface, workflow fundamentals, and core compositing techniques used in professional visual effects production pipelines. This course serves as an entry-level gateway into digital compositing and VFX workflows.

PREREQUISITES
• Basic computer knowledge
• Familiarity with digital images and file management
• No prior compositing experience required
• Some familiarity with Nuke is an asset

The course is offered in a hybrid format (in-person and remote)
The instructor teaches in the classroom, and participants are encouraged to attend the training in person. If they are unable to attend in person, participants have access to a computer at the NAD so they can work remotely in a shared environment, just like in a production setting.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Fortunato Frattasio
Fortunato Frattasio is a senior Visual Effects artist, supervisor, instructor, and Learning & Development manager with over 25 years of industry experience and more than 100 feature film and television credits. His work includes projects such as Mars Attacks, Armageddon, Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, The Hunger Games, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and Goosebumps. In addition to production work, Fortunato has extensive experience in artist training, curriculum development, and education outreach, mentoring students and professionals for careers in the VFX industry.
CONTENT (Course Description)
• Introduction to the Nuke
• Basic workflow navigation
• Image manipulation fundamentals including transforms, color correction, merge operations, and premultiplication
• Masking and rotoscoping techniques
• Green/blue screen compositing and matte refinement workflows
• Final compositing polish, basic grading, spill suppression, and rendering/output workflows Outcome: Students can build a clean, simple comp from start to finish.
