Short description

The Advanced Image Extraction course is based on a series of practical exercises where students will experiment with a variety of techniques to extract a subject from a greenscreen or bluescreen image.

Target clientele

Nuke composers who wish to deepen their knowledge of complex image extraction (keying).

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Nuke software (node graph, roto, simple tracking, merge, grade, etc.)

A certificate of participation is given to those who have attended more than 80% of the training hours.

About the teacher

Xavier Bourque has been compositing since 2000 (exclusively on Nuke since 2008). He has worked on more than thirty feature films over the years including a few films with a Deep Compositing component (Prometheus, Arrival). He also created the Pixelfudger suite of tools which is widely used in the industry.

Detailed description

The Advanced Image Extraction course is based on a series of practical exercises where students will experiment with a variety of techniques to extract a subject from a greenscreen or bluescreen image.

Topics covered will include: 

 

  • Noise reduction (denoise).
  • Creating and using a clean plate.
  • Exploration of the different keyers (IBK, Primatte, Keylight, etc...).
  • Filling (core matte) vs. detailed overlay (soft matte).
  • Color feedback reduction (despill).
  • Halo management (black edge, white edge)
  • Extraction of fine details out of keyer.

Each student will have remote access to an individual workstation and a zoom link sent a few days before the start of the course. He/she will have access to the didactic material and media content necessary for learning.
